I would like to share with you my little boy's birthday party. His name is Nathaniel but we call him Nath. He just turned 6 years old last March 18. He specifically asked for an "Avatar: The Last Airbender" theme because it's his favorite show at the moment. Instead of wanting to be Aang, he wanted to be Prince Zuko, the firebender. So I looked online for party supplies for this theme but there wasn't a lot, so I started working on a lot of DIY stuff for his party.
This is the invitation I made using Adobe Photoshop Elements. And yes, that's a picture of my son firebending, LOL.
I matted it on red cardstock and made the envelope with my Silhouette cutting machine.
I also made the banner with the Silhouette cutting machine, Nath thought the flame cutouts were pretty cool. Since the time for the party was 1:30-3:30 pm, we just served some snacks for the kids. I don't know about you guys, but from my experience with kids' parties, they would rather run around with their friends than actually sit down and eat.
This was the design on his cake. I just made it on the computer, printed it out and gave it to our favorite bakery. These edible paper for cakes are a wonderful way to personalize cakes, don't you think? My 16-year-old daughter Bea made the Oreo Pops for the party.
For the kids' table, I printed out coloring pages from the internet, glued them onto 12x12 paper, and voila, they had an interactive coloring mat. I also placed plain white paper bags and told them to write their name and decorate/draw on it however they want. All the prizes they got for the games and the pinata candies went into these bags. Each of them also got a bubble bottle with little tags with their name on it.
We've had mishaps with blindfolds in the past, so this time, I printed out these anime eyes, cut it, and taped it on an old pair of sunglasses. We used it for the "Pin the Ear on Momo Game" and also for the pinata.
This is a despicable character in the show, the evil Firelord Ozai. I made this as the target for the "Waterbending Training Game." They were supposed to hit this target with water balloons. A very fun game and easy to make too! First I wrapped a cake circle in blue wrapping paper, printed, cut and glued the picture on it and applied a coating of Mod Podge. Then I punched holes on both sides and hang it on a tree with a ribbon.
We also had an "Airbending Training Game,"they were supposed to knock down little plastic toy soldiers by blowing air into drinking straws. Then there was the "Firebending Training Game," they knocked down water bottles filled with water that we dyed with food coloring (red to represent the firebenders, yellow for the airbenders, blue for the waterbenders, and green for the earthbenders) with their "fireballs" --- a tennis ball wrapped in red and yellow tissue paper.
This was the party favor, Hershey miniature chocolates that I wrapped with the characters of the show. The tag was made with my Silhouette cutting machine. The "thank you for coming to my party" phrase, I printed out and glued onto the tag.
So between all the games, the jump house, the bubble bottles and coloring the placemat, the kids were pretty busy the whole time. We didn't have to spend a lot of money for this party and the best thing about it is, my little boy refers to it as the "best day ever." (^_^)
